Automatic Generic Prescribing

We are aware that both the Joint Epilepsy Council and the Royal College of Pharmacists responded to the consultation to indicate that none of the suggested processes for prescribing generic medicines were considered satisfactory. Although the reasons were diverse we think it unlikely that pharmacist will be given the right to provide generic substitutions for epilepsy medication where the prescriber has called for a proprietary item. This is clearly likely to be discussed with incoming ministers before any decision is taken.
